Comfort Food at Its Best: Mississippi Pot Roast Made with Ranch-Raised Chuck Roast

Some recipes feel like a warm hug, and Mississippi Pot Roast is one of them. This dish is the ultimate comfort food—tender, juicy beef with a tangy, buttery flavor that’s perfect for cozy dinners or lazy Sundays. While the recipe is simple, using high-quality ingredients, like a chuck roast from our family's cattle operation, makes all the difference.

Our ranch-raised beef chuck roasts are perfect for this dish: flavorful, tender, and raised with care on our Texas pastures. Let’s dive into how to make this recipe, your family will thank you!

Mississippi Pot Roast Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3–4 lbs chuck roast (A Little Cattle Co. Chuck Roast is perfect for this!)
  • 1 packet ranch dressing mix
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 1/2 - 1 stick unsalted butter depending on preference
  • Whole or Sliced Pepperoncini peppers + juice from the jar
  • Salt + Pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. Layer the Ingredients:
Place the chuck roast in a slow cooker. Sprinkle the ranch dressing mix and au jus gravy mix evenly over the roast.

  2. Add the Good Stuff:
Place the stick of butter on top of the roast. Pour the pepperoncini peppers around it with the juice from the jar, for extra tanginess.

  3. Cook Low and Slow:
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the roast is fall-apart tender.

  4. Shred and Serve:
Use two forks to shred the roast directly in the slow cooker. Stir the meat into the juices for maximum flavor. Serve over rice and or with fresh bread.
